are introduced to YuMi by ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer at the Hanover Fair 2015 in Germany
During his three-day visit to the country, Ulrich Spiesshofer met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5 April 2016. As India embarks on ambitious programmes to electrify every household in the country, expand the manufacturing sector and upgrade its urban infrastructure, their talks focussed on how ABB can support the government’s renewable energy initiatives and help to encourage public acceptance of renewables.
“The discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was very fruitful,” Spiesshofer said. “We see particular potential for ABB’s technologies in renewables penetration and microgrids, as well as for energy efficient motors and drives for industry since India still uses 30% more energy per unit of output than industrialized countries.
“Prime Minister Modi is especially interested in electric mobility for India’s millions of auto-rickshaws and on the day of our meeting inaugurated a new service for eRickshaws, as part of the ‘Standup India’ initiative to encourage entrepreneurship,” Spiesshofer said. “Given the government’s ambitious plans to have all auto-rickshaws running on electricity in the future, we will look closely at charging solutions for eRickshaws.”
