Indian publishing in English language has created a niche of its own. India is ranked third in the world in English language publishing after the USA and UK. Commonly referred to as Indian writing in English, successive generations of Indian writers have made a name for themselves and have created a unique genre of writing from the subcontinent. Recently there has been a spurt in English language publications from the subcontinent. However, a substantial number of these are not able to reach to readers in markets in the UK and US.
In order to establish a link between English language authors and publishers from the subcontinent and consumers in countries such as the UK and US, FICCI and the London Book Fair (LBF) have come together to publish a catalogue of select writing in English published in South Asia. The catalogue will be available to participants at the LBF.
Entries are invited for participation in the publication of the catalog. One can submit details of some of the literary work of authors from the subcontinent, and explore opportunities of trading of rights with publishers abroad. Entries may be sent to Osamazaid Rahman, senior assistant director, FICCI at osamazaid. rahman@ficci.com.
