North Delhi-based Digital Studio & Big Print Lab, which installed a Konica Minolta bizhub Press C1085 in June 2015, is going to start its digital printing business very soon. Established in 2003, the company started off as a photo book printing studio with a Noritsu LPS 24 Pro. Today the company has four offices in Delhi. “We are already getting inquires and requests from customers for digital printing jobs such as visiting cards, brochures and catalogs. The new Konica Minolta is the motivation for us to venture into the new field as we won’t need additional investment with the new press capable of producing photo albums as well as digital jobs. Hopefully, we will start meeting the demands of our new customers very soon,” says Gaurav Sachdeva of Digital Studio & Big Print Lab.
“Expanding our existing business to digital printing will help us generate business during seasonal slowdowns. Photo book business is active for just eight months of the year and then it goes into a hibernation mode,” says Sachdeva. “We wanted to invest in a press which would allow us to support our existing photo business as well as to expand to digital printing – and Konica Minolta C1085 is the right press as it meets all our requirements.”
The new C1085 digital press at Digital Studio & Big Print Lab comes with automatic setup and in-line finishing features. The large-capacity paper feed unit PF-708 increases the paper input capacity to as many as 4,630 sheets and provides enhanced media processing for paper weights from 55 to 350 grams per square metre. All paper sizes can be fed from each tray; paper feeding from all trays is based on vacuum technology and in addition the PF-708 is equipped with a document feeder for scanning and copying. “The printer has three paper trays with a holding capacity of 2,000 papers each,” says Sachdeva. The C1085 also comes with an optional heating unit which ensures smooth printing onto preprinted offset and coated media and facilitates troublefree printing in areas with high humidity. The press enables print production without manual intervention, as the output device is automatically adjusted to the correct settings by the job ticket.
“When you invest in technologies, you always need to keep in mind that your choice of technology is futuredriven so that it does not get obsolete at least in the next two years. Your technology should be your new road to future, capable of opening new opportunities when the need arises,” says Sachdeva. “If you want to compete, you will have to assess how some of the biggest trends in technology are impacting your markets today and how they are going to influence your markets in the future.”
