Digital printing solutions provider Dot Digital, based in the Northern Mumbai suburb of Kandivali, installed a Zund G3 L2500 cutting table two months ago in a bid to move up the technological ladder. Mainly a wide format printer till 2008, the company gradually became a diversified provider of promotional print solutions to clients in retail, architecture, interior designing and several other areas. The range of materials used includes paper, cardboard, vinyl, MDF wood fibre, plastic plates, acrylic glass. Along with the Zund, Dot Digital has purchased a Fuji Acuity Advance flatbed printer. In the company’s 8,000 square foot facility, the new Fuji sits with two HP XL 1500 printers in addition to HP 2300, HP Latex 850 and Spider and HP Inkjet 5500 printers.
“We looked at various comparable options when we were looking for a cutting table. We found the Zund to be the most suitable for our requirements in terms of width and speed,” says Suresh Shetty, director of Dot Digital. The Zund G3 L2500 has a cutting extension of 96.26 inches. Prior to having the cutting machine, a lot of this work was outsourced or was done manually. This situation was becoming untenable as manual cutting took a lot of time and work would have to be outsourced in peakload situations. With the Zund table, manual labour has been reduced significantly.
“What took more than two weeks can be now done in less than two days. In today’s world when clients want quick and fast service, saving time makes a lot of difference,” Shetty explains. With sharp reduction in manual labour time, productivity has been positively impacted. Every process from creative to logistics and everything in between is now done inhouse.
Creating a niche in retail display segment
Shetty says the focus for Dot Digital will now be more on creating a niche in promotional items such as window displays, glass displays, lenticulars and standees for retail players showrooms, multiplexes and restaurants. The company currently derives close to 40% of its business from the retail display segment while the remaining 60% comes from the outdoor segment. Shetty wants to make the share of retail much higher. “I want to take the share of business coming from the retail segment to close to 70% as that is our focus area. With the new set-up of Fuji printer and Zund cutting machine we should achieve that in the next six months to one year,” he says with confidence.
