Coimbatore-based Glo Color Lab showcased the efficiency of its newly installed B2-sized format HP Indigo 10000 digital press at an event in Coimbatore aimed at the photographer community in the region. With the theme ‘Print Solutions for Every Age’ B2 sized photo albums, children’s books, posters, calendars, art books and wedding albums were showcased on 4 and 5 April 2014 at the Codissia Trade Centre in Coimbatore. The installation of the HP Indigo 10000 at Coimbatore is the second of this machine in the country the first and early adopter being Mazda Imaging at Mumbai.

Glo Color Lab installed its first HP Indigo press in 2007 as a modern expansion of its photography business. With five HP Indigo presses, in Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai, Glo Color Lab is the largest Indigo user in India – offering print and finishing services for photography, commercial, packaging and now book printing.

“The HP Indigo10000 digital press allows us to take advantage of new capabilities made possible by the wider 29-inch format. With this B2 format printing, we are poised to increase our productivity and profitability,” says TS Ramanan, managing director, Glo Color Lab. “We are committed to providing the highest quality to our clients and the HP Indigo has proved to be the right technology for accelerating our business,” he further added.

The 10000 will provide Glo Color Lab the traditional Indigo high quality, substrate flexibility and wide color gamut but in a larger format. With a speed of up to 4,600 sheets an hour and greater imposition efficiency it will also allow Glo Color Lab to increase profitability and differentiate its business with new applications such as B2-sized calendars, book covers, posters and fine art.

With the installation of the new 29- inch digital press, Glo Color Lab plans to extend its customer domains to commercial publishing and by cost

effectively producing high-quality books in larger formats. The B2 format allows for both 8 and 16-page folded book signatures (depending on the finished book size) and thus higher print and binding efficiency.

The company is also planning to extend its high-value customized packaging and folding carton work to higher volumes.

“Glo Color Lab has a strong legacy of innovation, backed by deep technical expertise and an unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality and value to its customers,” said Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager, Indigo Digital Press Division, HP. “The HP Indigo 10000 helps extend this legacy, and is delivering on its promise to change the economics for Glo Color Lab, enabling them produce a broader range of applications, increase efficiency, and accelerate profitability. We’re proud to be associated with the creative results Glo Color Lab delivers.”

The world cannot survive without print because it is part of our daily life, said Bar-Shany. Rather than seeing the

onset of mobile and internet as a threat, it should be seen as an opportunity, he said. He appreciated Glo Color Lab’s adaptability and willingness to change as demonstrated by its continuous purchases of newer Indigo presses as they became available. He added, “The printing industry has been a witness to tough times for quite a while and it is a predicament everybody has to accept and adapt to. Digital printing has come a long way and the next generation of HP Indigo digital presses expand our existing leadership in high quality digital labels package printing and provide converters with new opportunities to increase productivity and profitability, and redefine what is possible for the brands they serve.” Country manager Indigo and Inkjet Digital Press Solutions of HP India, Appadurai, said that more than 150 HP Indigo presses have already been installed in the country. He expressed hope that the double digit growth of 2013-14 financial year for Indigo presses presages strong growth in the 2014-15 year as well.
