With another teacher that he employed, and 35 students MN Raju’s school took on students to class 5. In two years there were 600 students from primary to class 7 and Raju bought land for his first school. By 1985 the school grew to the high school level with 3500 students and 120 teachers.
After his first success, Raju invested in more land and the Indo English high school came up at several locations around the city with his investments in land and construction reaching `2 crore. Raju built a low cost teacher community who could relate to student needs and provide an appropriate level of learning. By 1989 Raju had four schools as well as intermediate and degree colleges and a post graduate college in Hyderabad and he was ready for more.
Medical schools and colleges
Raju started professional colleges for B. Ed and M. Ed training, a science and arts college, an engineering college in and around Hyderabad. Aiming even higher, he was able to build medical colleges and for this purpose he built a 600 bed hospital that has since become a 700 bed multi-speciality hospital employing 140 doctors. In addition, Raju established a 280 bed dental hospital and dental college and physiotherapy and Ayurvedic colleges along with hospitals for these disciplines or specialities.
Today the multifaceted MNR Educational trust with an investment of `1,800 crore runs a dozen schools, six professional colleges, a couple of social science and junior colleges, ten medical and one engineering college and nearly half a dozen hospitals in the state of MN Raju, chairman MNR Educational Trust.
Andhra Pradesh. Of the medical colleges, four have both undergraduate and post graduate courses while two are for nursing, one for paramedics, two for dental and one for physiotherapy.
