Sun Chemical's new ink for sheetfed offset printing, called SunLit OptiPace

Sun Chemical has introduced a new ink for sheetfed offset printing, called SunLit OptiPace, which makes use of Sun Chemical’s Pace ink technology where the binder allows for low tack formulations for use with low grammage papers and speciality substrates.

This ink is part of the SunLit range for offset sheetfed printing for commercial and packaging applications, though within this series only the existing ProPace and the new OptiPace inks use the Pace technology, which is said to offer reduced picking and delamination.

As with other Pace inks, it’s a vegetable oil-based ink, containing up to 80 percent bio-renewable content and no PTFE wax or PFAS chemicals. This inks are also suitable for extended colour gamut set-ups.

According to Sun Chemical, this new ink features enhanced pigmentation for greater colour strength, improved resistance and lower ink consumption. It’s said to achieve lower ink film weights, cleaner tonal clarity, faster throughput, and more consistent results on modern high-speed sheetfed presses. It offers low misting which should make for cleaner running on-press. In addition, the Pace inks allow the water settings to be reduced, in this case by 10-20 percent so that the ink dries more rapidly than standard conventional sheetfed inks, which should lead to faster job turnaround.

James Buchanan, product director of Sheetfed Systems, commented: “ProPace proved the strength of the Pace platform and has become our best-selling global sheetfed ink series. With OptiPace, we are not taking the first step, we are advancing an already proven platform into its next generation. OptiPace delivers stronger colour, lower consumption and the same press stability, drying performance and sustainability benefits that have made Pace technology such a success with printers worldwide.”

It’s worth noting that the Pace technology is also used on the SunPak FSP EcoPace and FMQ SafePace ranges, which are low migration inks for food and pharmaceutical packaging. Apart from inks, the Pace technology also features in overprint varnishes and fount solutions.
