Konica Minolta has announced updates to its mid-range production printers with a new Enhanced version of the toner-based AccurioPress C7100-series, which includes the C7100 and C7090. These were both introduced at the height of the pandemic in 2021 and were due for a mid-life refresh.

Malcolm Smith, professional print manager for Konica Minolta UK, says that the ‘Enhanced’ name is for clarity; in the past, Konica Minolta has introduced new ‘e’ variants, but this caused confusion if the ‘e’ stood for enhanced, Eco, or environmental.

He added, “In this case, we’ve made productivity upgrades via firmware, print heads, and new drums — all designed to boost quality when running high volumes, especially on heavy stock. The core specs remain unchanged, but customers will notice a visible difference in output, particularly with heavier media.”

Otherwise, as Smith pointed out, the C7100/ C7090 Enhanced models have the same specifications as the existing versions, including the Simitri V toner and the same print speeds of up to 100 A4 ppm and 90 A4 ppm, respectively.

They also have the same options, including adding the IQ-501 image quality unit. This feels like a missed opportunity since Konica Minolta introduced the improved version, the IQ-601, with the C14010-series earlier this year.

There’s a good choice of print servers, starting with Konica Minolta’s own IC-609, which ties in with the onboard job control and editing functions. Then there are two Fiery servers, the IC-318L, which is mainly aimed at corporate users, and the IC-319, which includes colour matching and profiling and is better suited to graphics users.

In addition, there’s the Creo IC-316, which comes with the added surprise of discovering that Creo is still alive and well, and part of the Kodak stable, though Kodak doesn’t do much to promote it. Nonetheless, this offers support for variable data printing, spot colour profiling and JDF connectivity.
