Following up in a similar fashion as last year, Mumbai Mudrak Sangh (MMS) recently reorganized a seminar for commercial, publication and packaging printers along with machinery, inks and substrate manufacturers in the South Mumbai region. Held on 4 March 2016, the seminar and power-lunch round tables were a part of the event at the Garware Club House near Wankhede Stadium. The nine member-participants from the machine manufacturing printing, publicity, commercial, digital, and color management sections came forward to share and explore the opportunities in print and talked in depth about the latest trends in this segment.

CN Ashok, managing director of Autoprint Machinery Manufacturers, was honored with the MMS Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Anuradha Prabhudesai, president of Lakshya Foundation, and Kamal Chopra, president of AIFMP. Under Ashok’s leadership, Autoprint has become a success story with strong logistics, excellent after-sales support and installation of more than 10,500 presses. Having won several awards in the past, Ashok expressed his gratitude at the event as he said, “Mumbai Mudrak Sangh (MMS) has been around for the last 61 years. Having a base in Coimbatore and getting acknowledgment for the award in Mumbai is an achievement in itself. Secondly, the day when this word spread across the social media, I received more than 1,000 congratulatory messages. This explains the active connection that the MMS association shares with the print fraternity. Followed by the All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP), when the German and Japanese technologies dominated the Indian printing industry, MMS gave us a chance to withstand the test of time and emerge as winners. I am extremely delighted to see Kamal Chopra come all the way from Ludhiana to felicitate us.”

Manish Gulati, head – India, Sheet Business gave a brief introduction on Avery Dennison products and the value additions they provide to print service providers (PSPs). A Appadurai, country manager at HP, gave a detailed presentation about the various innovations possible through digital technology and said, “Innovation is a mindset, and the PSPs must have a mindset of a marketing service to create value for customers by not dropping the price but creating unique value additions for their clients.” His presentation highlighted how digital technology can be used to short-run packaging as well as expand market presence and share possibilities that are only limited by lack of creativity and marketing acumen. Going along with the efforts to update the members, MMS simplified the mystery connected with GST through the Workshopcum-Panel discussion spearheaded by the highly experienced chartered accountant, Kiran Garkar. Garkar gave a detailed presentation on Goods and Services Tax (GST) and informed the audience about the simple basics of GST to complex equation for more than an hour. According to him, the introduction of GST in India brings in a new regime of tax compliance, moving from filing of tax reports to a model based on data communication between your business as the taxpayer and GST Network (GSTN) organization. This will contribute to an increased simplification of the tax levy and administration and greater transparency, which will enable broad compliance and ultimately unify the country as a single market. The session aimed at ensuring preparedness among the print fraternity to the changes happening and be ready by July 2017. At the end of the session, Garkar addressed the queries raised by the PSPs present in the hall.

Anuradha Prabhudesai, president of Lakshya Foundation and guest of honor, gravitated the attention of everyone present in the hall to create an awareness of the gallantry of Indian soldiers. An ex-banker, who left her job for the crusade of Lakshya Foundation, Prabhudesai is attempting to bridge the gap between the armed forces and the civilians.
