Focusing on the two broad areas — food services and food packaging — Pakka showcased its compostable and bio-degradable products from its portfolio at Paperex 2023. The company highlighted its paper-based flexible packaging samples with different barrier properties for chocolates and chips as well as its delivery containers, forks, plates, etc., made of bagasse for the food services category and food packaging.

Its newly introduced cutlery range created from certain biopolymers and bamboo as well as its new multi-compartment delivery containers were the point of focus at Pakka’s stand in the exhibition. “Our focus is to replace non-compostable or non-biodegradable products with our sustainable and eco-friendly products made from sugarcane waste,” said Ved Krishna, strategy lead, Pakka.

Ved said the government’s rules and regulations are prodding the industry to be sustainable and encouraging the sustainable products industry. “There’s no such thing as an eco-friendly industry. You can lower your consumption but can’t eliminate it. Ultimately, you will consume water and energy, and something will go out. The question is how to minimize it. That is what we work for. The industry should go forward in that direction as well,” said Krishna.

Pakka’s foray into the paper flexible packaging segment through its collaboration with Brawny Bear has given it a platform to work more on the paper packaging industry. Contributing to the motto of Pakka of being sustainable, the paper packaging segment comes with food grade compliance, a certified compostable status, a high barrier to avoid exposure, premium quality, lightweight and affordable.

Paperex is always a great place to see what’s happening in the industry, meet old customers, and make new ones. Most importantly it’s a place to have fun,” Krishna said.
