This collaboration with UPM will let Soprema take a new step forward in the integration of the release liner as raw material for an insulation product

UPM Raflatac, a global supplier of innovative and sustainable self-adhesive paper and film products, has announced Soprema as its main partner in label waste recycling in the EMEIA (Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa) region. Soprema, one of the world’s leading companies in waterproofing and a specialist in roofing and insulation, will transform the label waste collected through the RafCycle by UPM Raflatac recycling service into new construction and insulation materials. UPM Raflatac offers self-adhesive paper and film products including label materials, graphics solutions and removable self-adhesive products.

Soprema is a key player in the construction sector. With a presence of 123 manufacturing sites and over 120 subsidiaries worldwide, Soprema is known for sustainable construction solutions and investment in innovation. The collaboration with UPM Raflatac further underlines Soprema’s dedication to sustainability, the company said.

UPM Raflatac’s RafCycle service is committed to liner waste recycling. With this innovative partnership, label waste is converted into insulation solutions, supporting the use of renewable sources in the construction industry at Soprema’s site in France. Insulation materials play a pivotal role in enhancing energy efficiency in buildings. Cellulose wadding is one the best solutions for attic insulation because it offers high performance in different kinds of weather conditions.

This collaboration will let Soprema take a new step forward in the integration of the release liner as raw material for an insulation product that is more effective for all-season thermal comfort, Soprema’s management team comments.

“We are excited to announce this partnership with Soprema, as collaboration is key in the circular economy. This cross-industry collaboration not only supports the recycling of liner waste, but also allows us to continue providing solutions to avoid other disposal methods such as incineration or landfill. The first collections of RafCycle label waste have already been delivered to Soprema,” says Juha Virmavirta, director, RafCycle, UPM Raflatac.

UPM Raflatac has set an ambitious target to be the first label materials company to go beyond fossils. The RafCycle label release liner recycling service supports companies to meet their sustainability targets.
