Belgium-based Chili Publish’s online document editor Chili Publisher is a software that can be integrated into a website or a brand portal or a customer portal. This is aimed at allowing online editing of documents, such as a catalogue or a flyer although customers can also opt to work for large-format printing or packaging. Indian Printer & Publisher met Cindy Van Luyck, marketing manager of Chili Publish who spoke about the various aspects and applications of the software.
“Chili is a flexible product to handle work from all facets of the graphic arts industry. With Chili Publisher you have control of the data and the power to give clients exactly the tools they need to create, edit and collaborate online using your workflow. The editor supports CMYK colors as well as RGB, lab, spot and gradients. Open Type and True Type fonts are uploaded with the document but you can add more fonts with a simple click. Chili Publisher works as a professional layout program, with features such as word wrap, auto grow, spell check, hyphenations and overflow warnings. There is support for image conversions with profiles and image transformations for jpeg, eps and pdf files,” says Cindy.
The software can also be adapted depending on the level of expertise of the user. “If there is an advanced user, the software can give him a lot of tools to work, with the full range of customization on offer. Otherwise, it will stick to the basics so that the experience remains user-friendly although as efficient as possible. So for a user, it is a completely scalable experience. The second most important thing with our software is visualizing the end result. For example, if you are working on designing a 3-fold flyer, it is not always easy to see the end result. The same is with packaging—the designs are very complex but it is important to see what’s happening. With the help of our software, 2D folding and 3D visualization is possible, which now supports the Collada format as well,” says Cindy.
The other important aspect of this software is that, based on the customer’s preferences, this editor can be turned completely inconspicuous. “Some customers may not want to reveal and we completely respect that. They can blend the software into the background if they want and may even opt for a completely unique layout which suits them. Our software can blend with existing platforms such as Enfocus, Agfa or EFI so there are no additional integration-related headaches for the customer,” she says.
According to her, Chili Publisher can generate high resolution PDF files including PDF files with variable data. HTML5 output can be created from a Chili Publisher document allowing re-purposing of files for online communications. The file can also be exported back into Adobe InDesign.
“Chili Publisher addresses many of the issues facing the graphic arts industry today. The technology changes quickly but Chili Publisher is designed to be ready for those changes. The key benefi ts that you can expect is monetary savings as well as increase in effi ciency. By using this software, you can help yourself be differentiated amongst your competition and provide the value addition that your customer seeks,” concludes Cindy.
