Alexa’s global traffic rank is a measure of how a website is doing relative to all other sites on the web over the past three months. The rank is calculated using a proprietary methodology that combines a site’s estimated average of daily unique visitors and its estimated number of pageviews over the past three months. Alexa provides analytical insights to benchmark, compare and optimize businesses on the web. Based on Google’s page rank and Alexa’s traffic rank as well as parameters such as web revenue we have compiled a list of leading news sites. All the news sites in our list are amongst Alexa’s most popular 100,000 sites in the world. However, of the top 100 Indian sites ranked by Alexa, only a few belong to newspapers and news magazines.

A responsive design improves the usability of the website. Few years back, before the advent of mobile internet communication devices, developers used to make their applications compatible with screens of various resolutions. This can also be called making the design responsive. In today’s world, where more and more users are consuming information on their mobile devices, it has become necessary to enable the layout to adjust according to the user’s screen resolution (view port) using media queries.

Responsive Web design is not only about adjustable screen resolutions and automatically resizable images, but rather about a whole new way of thinking about design. In the list of our 50 fastest growing Indian dailies, we have noticed that 82% of the newspapers are using responsive websites for publishing news online. This itself is a proof of the growing demand for online news and Indian newspapers are showing no hesitations in investing in online and digital platforms. Many newspapers are going beyond just making their websites responsive by introducing different online features which will also help them monetize their digital properties.
