Greater Noida-headquartered paper bag manufacturer Adeera Packaging has recently developed more paper-based solutions such as tamper-free and odorless paper bags for food packaging and quick-service restaurant chains (QSR). The company says the ban on single-use plastic and the gap in the supply of alternative packaging gave a thrust to the company’s innovations.

According to the company, service and quality are its focus — primarily the strength of the paper bags, their odorless factor, and their longevity. The company has diversified its product range from conventional paper bags to handle-carry bags and square bottoms, enabling its growth in the QSR chains.

Packaging South Asia had earlier reported on the origins of the company and its journey so far in the paper-based packaging industry as well as its growing foothold in the food and pharma industry.

CEO Sushant Gaur started the company as Urja Packaging in 2012 and later joined hands with co-founders Ashish Agarwal and Atulya Bhatia to re-launch it as Adeera Packaging in 2019. Adeera produces (8 crore) 80 million paper bags monthly and exports to seven countries currently.

In an informal interaction with the media on 13 July, Sushant Gaur emphasized that the paper packaging market has been increasing exponentially, resulting in the need to expand its production capacity, which is at 600-700 tons per day at present.

Another aspect Adeera has been focusing on is the processing and procurement of agriculture waste —parali. The company says it is in collaborative efforts with its paper suppliers and trying to source agriculture waste directly, which can be converted into paper pulp and later into paper packaging.

Paper is by far the most sustainable packaging solution. Its growth has also been recognized in recent years. Sustainability and recyclability have always been a part of Adeera’s processes. We have come up with several solutions some of which we have introduced for snacks and QSR delivery,” Gaur said.

For common use, Adeera has introduced sturdy paper bags that one can use to carry, say, a bottle of alcohol or a pet bottle. “The odorless factor has been a key aspect of all of our solutions. On the same track, we have made triangle-shaped snack paper packaging for fritters (samosa) or sandwiches. Moving on to the best highlight for QSR chains, we are developing tamper-free paper packaging for Big Basket, BlinkIt, Zomato, and others. We want to be an enabler of sustainable industries delivering sustainable packaging,” Gaur says.
