Powai-based Patel Digital Printers has recently established a new unit under the Print Stance moniker to cater exclusively to the corporate clients. Print Stance has started operations with a brand new Canon imagePress 10000VP digital production press.
Patel Digital Printers, situated right opposite the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), has been in existence since 1997 and prints thesis, reports and conference materials for students and faculty. Apart from using three Xerox digital printers, two color and one monochrome, it has a full-fledged finishing section as well. Patel Digital Printers has been managed by three brothers – Vinesh Patel, Ramesh Patel and Prakash Patel. Now, Prakash Patel will manage Print Stance while the other two brothers will look after operations at Patel Digital Printers.

Print Stance operates from a brand new space, which is located at a short distance from Patel Digital Printers. The Canon imagePress 10000VP was installed at the premise in the middle of May.

“Patel Digital Printers is a very well-established name in the area. We are known for our print and binding quality. After catering to customers from the education segment, we have decided to diversify our customers base so that we embark on a new growth phase. We see huge potential in the corporate sector with demand for promotional items, brochures, visiting cards, danglers, etc.,” says Prakash Patel.

Talking about the Canon imagePress 10000VP digital production press, Patel says that the reason for going for a production press was because the existing presses could not offer adequate speed when printing very high-quality jobs and with the new Canon, that issue is taken care of.

The Canon imagePress 10000VP is Canon’s first 100 ppm press and was introduced in India during Pamex 2015. The press can print in CMYK at full rated speed on uncoated stock from 60-350 gsm, and on coated grades from 70-350 gsm and can handle maximum paper size of 330 x 488 mm. The press boasts of a resolution of 2,400 dpi.

Rapid expansion in the new vertical

According to Patel, Print Stance will aggressively expand its printing and finishing capabilities by adding more presses and postpress machinery in the next few months. There are plans to add another color press and a black and white printing machine.
“We are very optimistic about the success of our new venture as demand for print is very strong in the corporate sector. Today, corporate clients want small quantities in double quick time. Print runs have gone down but the number of jobs has increased. That is why after the Canon imagePress 10000VP, we will quickly add a couple more presses. These will also be from Canon,” Patel shares.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.

The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.

As the economy approaches real growth with unevenness and shortages a given, we are looking forward to the PrintPack India exhibition in Greater Noida. We are again appointed to produce the Show Daily on all five days of the show from 26 to 30 May 2022.
