On 9 January 2018, Quark Software announced a new QuarkXPress special offer running from January 1 to February 28, 2018. Anyone who would like to stay current on QuarkXPress – and hasn’t yet purchased QuarkXPress 2017 – now has the chance to enroll in the 12-month QuarkXPress upgrade plan for free. Customers will save $169 with the new offer.

With every purchase of QuarkXPress 2017, users will receive free enrollment in the 12-month QuarkXPress upgrade plan, which provides free QuarkXPress upgrades for 12 months following enrollment. The Upgrade Plan provides the benefit of a subscription without locking users into a yearly contract. Renewing the upgrade plan at the end of 12 months is completely optional and not automatic. If designers decide not to renew, they simply continue to use their copy of QuarkXPress.

More benefits
With active enrollment in the QuarkXPress upgrade plan, customers automatically receive each release of QuarkXPress, allowing them to schedule and plan for future upgrade costs. The yearly cost to enroll in the 12-Month upgrade Plan is typically $169 and includes free upgrades – that is no charge for upgrades to all licenses enrolled and current in the program at the time of the next upgrade release. Additional benefits include priority notification and access to QuarkXPress updates via download; receive priority notification and access to QuarkXPress updates via download; access to concurrent usage of up to three versions of QuarkXPress (currently 2017, 2016 and 2015) to ease migration planning and free access to free site consolidation and de-consolidation.

Designers always own their QuarkXPress licenses even if the upgrade plan is not renewed – no contract required.

Customers who purchase QuarkXPress 2017 between 1 January and 28 February 2018 need to complete the online redemption form. Within three business days of completing the redemption form they will receive their 12-Month QuarkXPress Upgrade Plan Welcome Letter. This letter will contain information about benefits, enrolment dates, and the contact information of a personal QuarkXPress representative.

This offer is valid from January 1, 2018 through February 28, 2018 to customers who purchase QuarkXPress 2017 upgrades, full product, government, and site licenses. Education license purchases, non-profit and not-for-resale licenses are excluded from this offer.

2023 promises an interesting ride for print in India

Indian Printer and Publisher founded in 1979 is the oldest B2B trade publication in the multi-platform and multi-channel IPPGroup. While the print and packaging industries have been resilient in the past 33 months since the pandemic lockdown of 25 March 2020, the commercial printing and newspaper industries have yet to recover their pre-Covid trajectory.

The fragmented commercial printing industry faces substantial challenges as does the newspaper industry. While digital short-run printing and the signage industry seem to be recovering a bit faster, ultimately their growth will also be moderated by the progress of the overall economy. On the other hand book printing exports are doing well but they too face several supply-chain and logistics challenges.

The price of publication papers including newsprint has been high in the past year while availability is diminished by several mills shutting down their publication paper and newsprint machines in the past four years. Indian paper mills are also exporting many types of paper and have raised prices for Indian printers. To some extent, this has helped in the recovery of the digital printing industry with its on-demand short-run and low-wastage paradigm.

Ultimately digital print and other digital channels will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future. For instance, there is no alternative to a rise in textbook consumption but this segment will only reach normality in the next financial year beginning on 1 April 2023.

Thus while the new normal is a moving target and many commercial printers look to diversification, we believe that our target audiences may shift and change. Like them, we will also have to adapt with agility to keep up with their business and technical information needs.
