Sudeep Bhattacharjee speaks to IPP live at Printpack India 2019

Sudeep Bhattacharjee, the managing director of manrolandGoss India which is headquartered in Delhi-NCR with a new office in Noida, described the huge improvements in the Printpack India exhibition and called it a mini-drupa.

At Printpack, Bhattacharjee outlined a very busy and eventful 2018 for the parent of what was earlier known as manroland web systems India and will henceforth be known as manrolandGoss India. Apart from Goss, the company acquired GWS – the largest used press dealer in the world. In addition, it acquired the drive systems manufacturer Harland and Simon. The company now has a comprehensive arsenal encompassing electronic, drive systems, presses and technologies including high automation and the Internet of Things.

Speaking about the renewed manrolandGoss’ four-fold strategy, Bhattacharjee said its systems solutions provide refurbishment, moving and re-installation of used web offset presses. These can be of various makes apart from the manroland web and Goss presses that the company has already been working with. In fact, the company is ready to service and automate even Indian-manufactured web offset presses.

The second strategy element to some extent is an extension of the first – engineered solutions that provide automation for presses including retrofitting technology such as the company’s Pecom control systems. Such a solution was provided to Kala Jyoti in Hyderabad a couple of years ago for its Komori heatset web offset press control systems with register and color automation. This initiative has been generated largely by the wholly-owned Indian subsidiary and, if we understood correctly, is now being migrated by manrolandGoss to the rest of its global markets.

The third element of the strategy is service solutions, which again goes across all web offset brands. It includes consumables and spares from its eCommerce web storefront as well as local stocks and the guaranteed quality of recovered and rubber rollers that are provided with appropriate installation and calibration training. Extensive service and training support for its mission-critical customers is provided by the experienced team of hands-on engineers and printers.

The fourth element of the manrolandGoss India strategy is to bring the latest automation techniques to its web offset newspaper printer customers. These are embodied foremost in its Maintellisense technology with sensors embedded in the presses and an IOT adapter that can send data to manrolandGoss servers for enabling predictive maintenance.

Once a press customer activates his subscription, the Pecom control system shares the operational, mechanical, performance and vital health data through a firewall ‘Genubox’ with the manrolandGoss servers. These servers not only look at one user’s data but are able to crunch the signals and numbers from hundreds of presses and sensors that are simultaneously generating ‘big data’ for anticipating problems and creating preventive maintenance and pre-maintenance solutions.

Bhattacharjee briefly mentioned the company’s fast developing flexible hybrid Varioman press that can provide hybrid printing and EB curing solutions for flexible packaging.
